A 1970s landmark by Robert McElroy lists in Pennsylvania

It represents harmony between architecture and landscape

Set on five private acres in Willistown Township, the McElroy House is a rare piece of Pennsylvania’s modern architectural history. Designed in 1975 by noted builder Robert McElroy as his family home, the 4,348sqft residence reflects his lifelong pursuit of harmony between architecture and landscape.

Celebrated for his contemporary houses across the Main Line and Valley Forge Mountain, McElroy crafted this home as a living example of his design principles. The structure unfolds across multiple levels with sharply pitched rooflines, floor-to-ceiling glass and exposed beams that draw light deep into the interior while maintaining privacy among the trees.

Inside, the artistry continues through the work of master woodworker Horace Hartshaw. He built the home’s intricate wooden details, including sculptural staircases, cabinetry and railings that blur the line between furniture and architecture.

The three-bedroom, four-bathroom home is listed for $1.99m with Compass Greater Philadelphia.
