Shenzhen practice Studio 10 has created zen-like interiors at Light and Shadow villa – part of The Other Place guest house in Pingle County.

Polished concrete floors and tactile bamboo-finished walls set the tone for the self-contained holiday apartment in Guilin. It is the latest part of the Li River creative retreat, available from $202 USD per night via Airbnb.

A double-height pitched roof injects drama to the space, while the bathroom, kitchen and tv have been ‘consolidated into a single “box”’ says the practice. This means the minimalist bolthole is completely open and without partition, creating an interplay of shadow and light.

Recycled elm, bamboo and rattan complete the material palette, which is locally sourced and devoid of ornamentation to promote clear thinking and reflection.
