Paul Rudolph’s iconic Milam Residence is for sale in Florida

Its geometric design has been given a refurb

One of Paul Rudolph’s best-known designs, the geometric Milam Residence, has hit the market in Florida following a top-to-toe restoration.

The Modernist house caused a stir in the 1960s when it was completed, thanks to its distinctive ‘cubist’ facade. Views across Ponte Vedra beach, as well as its two-acre site, are framed by concrete blocks across the five-bedroom home, which is organised across several levels.

It has been well-preserved by the Milam family – descendants of the lawyer who originally commissioned Rudolph to design the house. They’ve completely restored the striking Florida property, and have added a new retaining wall along the beach. Original features include a conversation pits, fireplaces, terrazzo and wood floors.

There’s no price tag on the property – although it was previously listed in 2017 for $4.7m – but the Paul Rudolph Foundation is handling queries about its sale.

Editor’s note: In the original version of this story, we incorrectly listed the location as Miami. Milam House is actually in Ponte Vedra Beach, outside of Jacksonville in northern Florida. Copy had been updated to reflect this.
