New York’s Bar Wayō is the latest addition to the growing Momofuku empire – and it’s been designed to make the most of its waterside location in Manhattan’s South Street Seaport site.
Toronto studio DesignAgency led the bar’s interiors, which are decked out in warm oak panelling and feature backlit coffered ceilings, covered in perforated copper. Guests can perch on wood and leather stools, before stocking up on fresh groceries from Bar Wayō’s wall of refrigerators.
The centrepiece of the New York bar is undoubtedly its outdoor terrace, which sits underneath a teak pergola and offers space for 50 to enjoy the riverside view – screened from passersby by planters full of grasses.
Bar Wayō’s Japanese-Tiki dinner menu nods to its watery location, serving up squid seca, shrimp cocktail and clam chowder as well as lobster rolls.
