Lehmann Maupin sets off on a Grand Tour of Italy

The gallery’s artists will appear this spring across Milan and at the Venice Biennale

The international gallery Lehmann Maupin kicked off its Italian tour last week at Milan’s Pirelli HangarBicocca, site of an ambitious retrospective by installation artist Nari Ward. Curated by Roberta Tenconi with Lucia Aspesi, Ground Break includes time-based media works, video, choreography and performative sculpture created over 30 years.

Ward also features in Lehmann Maupin’s seasonal exhibition at Circolo, a non-profit organization on Milan’s Via della Spiga. Opening on 10 April, the group show highlights new and recent work by the artists Kader Attia, Hernan Bas, Loriel Beltrán, Billy Childish, Mandy El-Sayegh, Todd Gray, Nicholas Hlobo, Kim Yun Shin, Lee Bul, Liza Lou, Catherine Opie, Alex Prager and Erwin Wurm. The gallery’s Circolo residency will run until 21 June.

Then on 20 April, the Biennale di Venezia launches with pioneering work by Korean artist Kim Yun Shin. Curated by Adriano Pedrosa, a collection of her wood totems and bronzes will feature in the Giardini della Biennale. Meanwhile artists Liu Wei and Do Ho Suh will appear in collateral group exhibitions – the former at Palazzo Diedo and the latter at Palazzo Malta.
