Taipei City’s La Vie Friande bakery hones a Parisian vibe

French elegance oozes out of this Taipei City bakery, which serves pastries from an industrial backdrop.

Located in the capital’s Da’an District, La Vie Friande is a teahouse and baking class centre and a patisserie. Local studio 2BOOKs design oversaw the interiors, transforming what was previously a gloomy attic into a light-filled, glass-fronted space.

Bentwood cane chairs and parquet flooring nod to typical French bistros, while lights made from copper piping and cement plastering introduce a more industrial atmosphere.

Visitors can book onto a bakery workshop, learn how to make a three-layer strawberry cream cake, or content themselves with a chestnut financier and a seat looking out onto Wolong Street from La Vie Friande’s glazed front.
