Converted Suffolk dairy barn has lofty proportions

A 19th-century dairy barn has been transformed into a 4,000 sq ft house in the Suffolk countryside, with staggering volumes designed by Richard van Ewyk.

According to The Modern House, which is selling the four-bedroom countryside property for £1.595m, the former farm buildings were converted initially in 2005. Van Ewyk intervened in 2010 with a full refurb to create the house as it is today.

Blackmoor Barn is accessed via a towering double-height hallway that leads to the dining room and kitchen, and main living room beyond. Like the hallway, this space is also double height and forms the heart of the four-bedroom countryside property, complete with exposed wooden beams and a large wood burner.

A second converted barn is adjacent to the main home, and it contains a commercial-grade cinema, bar, gym and a 35-ft-long swimming pool. There’s also room for four cars in the garage, and a large workshop in the rest of the building, and an additional stable block 80-ft-long garage block and three acres of paddocks and gardens included in the sale.
