A Shou Sugi Ban country cabin asks for €1.2m in France’s Aix-en-Provence

The charred wood exterior of this cabin outside France’s Aix-en-Provence contrasts the colourful wildflowers that surround it.

Designed by its owner, the countryside property sits on the edge of the Durance Valley and borrows the Japanese technique of Shou Sugi Ban to protect its timber structure. Its blackened timber facade is broken up by large picture windows that peek out onto the landscape, but it’s from the infinity pool that guests can really drink in the dramatic views.

Pale pine lines the cabin’s interiors and, paired with pink walls and light concrete floors, create a sense of light and warmth. The living room and dining room open straight onto an outdoor deck for barbecuing or sitting with a book.

The French property is listed with Espaces Atypiques for €1.2m.
