The Cinnamon Club’s Grade II-listed building has had a makeover ahead of the London restaurant’s 15th anniversary.
B3 Designers have drawn on the former library’s roots in the revamp, restoring its original bookshelves on the ground floor. They even sourced thousands of books to place in them, cataloguing titles by subject and colour.
‘We were anxious about removing the panels covering the bookcases and were relieved to find the beautiful original features underneath,’ say the designers. ‘Procuring the books to go into this space made the project feel tangible quite early on and really drove us to restore this important feature.’
The practice also restored the original arches, mouldings, cornices and wood panelling of the Old Westminster Library building, constructed in 1893.
Elsewhere, timber and mirror panels were added to the restaurant’s mezzanine level to match the existing palette of the space. Velvet banquettes and seating booths, complete with bespoke brass strip detailing, are among the new additions to the 3,900 sq ft restaurant.
B3 Designers have also referenced the building’s past, with old maps and historic photographs of the library lining its walls.
‘These changes have transformed the dining atmosphere in the main dining area to ensure all diners look out onto something beautiful and interesting,’ they add.
