Classical features have been given the modernist treatment inside this historic Barcelona townhouse, redesigned by Compasso d’Oro award-winning architect Tobia Scarpa.

Sitting in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi neighbourhood, the 19th-century Barcelona property was completely reimagined by the Italian architect (and son of modernist maestro Carlo Scarpa) 20 years ago.

It’s now on the market via ILRE – International Luxury Real Estate with price on application and has had a recent update. Spaces are like inhabitable Mondrian paintings thanks to bold bursts of colour and carefully curated art and design pieces, which contrast Venetian floors and soaring arched windows.

Rooms on the ground floor have five-metre-high ceilings, and a sculptural central staircase leads up to four bedrooms and a private rooftop swimming pool with views over the street below.
