Peek inside NeueHouse Venice Beach

Private members club NeueHouse has unveiled its third outpost in Los Angeles’ Venice Beach neighbourhood.

The creative hub takes over 73 Market Street – a historic building dating back to 1922 that became something of an arts mecca when movie mogul Tony Bill bought it in the mid-1970s and turned it into a production facility for his movies. Market Street has a storied creative history, home to studios by Land Art pioneer Michael Heizer, Robert Irwin and Larry Bell, and the site of gallerist Larry Gagosian’s first LA gallery.

Most recently, Bill’s two-storey brick building was home to Snap Inc. – the owner of the social media app Snapchat – which added frosted windows and switched up the building’s original barn-style entrance during its tenure in the building. NeueHouse has worked these revisions back, restoring the building’s entrance while enlisting Toronto-based practice DesignAgency to oversee the club’s interiors.

DesignAgency has drawn on the breezy bohemian spirit of Southern California and Venice Beach to inspire its interventions, drawing on a warm palette of woods, sandy shades and mossy greens.

Memberships for the club start from $350 per month, offering access to various workspaces within the building and its rooftop bar, Reunion. This jewel in the crown is an informal space offering cocktails, food and sunset views—a crescent-shaped bar services Reunion with indoor and outdoor seating and aromatic planting.

NeueHouse Venice Beach is a stone’s throw from the boardwalk and is the latest architecturally-significant hub for the brand, whose other spaces include the iconic Bradbury Building downtown, the CBS broadcasting facility in Hollywood, and a Manhattan space. Its first Miami clubhouse is scheduled to open later this year.
