Seventies style permeates this Aarhus restaurant, which pairs well-known design pieces with more homely interior details in a masterclass of restrained Nordic design.

Localstudio Krøyer & Gatten oversaw Substans’s interior design, installing Poul Henningsen pendants in shades of blue and orange over simple wooden tables and chairs with woven seats to evoke the cosy ambience of a Danish home.

Classic midcentury shapes are contrasted by more typically domestic details across the restaurant’s interiors, including brown kitchen tiles, painted brickwork and oak wall shelves.

Guests can either sit and watch their food prepared in the open kitchen or gather near the windows at the back of the dining room to enjoy Substans’ Nordic tasting menu.
