Sitting along the cliffs of Wales’ Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, this ‘upside down house’ beds into its picturesque setting.

The contemporary holiday home was designed by John Pardey Architects and sits on a steep site looking out to sea. It scooped the RIBA Welsh Award and Gold Medal for Architecture in Wales in 2013 for its understated, sustainable design, claiming the title for the ‘best building in Wales’.

Ditching tradition, the house is arranged with living spaces across its upper level, and four bedrooms below.

The living room is crowned by an open timber-raftered roof. Wooden floors and kitchen cabinetry give the house – available to rent via Unique Home Stays from around £2,300 per week – a ‘modern rustic’ feel, while floor-to-ceiling sliding doors open onto a timber balcony.

The seafront terrace has dramatic views of Newport estuary, looking out towards Skomer Island (famed for its puffins and seals) and is sheltered from the elements by the house’s overhanging roof.

A slate chimney reaches through the height if the building, heating the living room on the upper level and a barbecue on the lower level terrace.

Seren Mor can sleep up to 10 and caters for the outdoorsy, with surfboards and kayaks available to guests.
