Paradis Apartment, on the Belgian seaside at Ostend, is a holiday home, gallery and boutique in one, though the owners call it a ‘moving, versatile and evolving project’. Blessed with views of the sea, jetty and harbour, it mixes in a curated selection of design and art from contemporary artists and makers, so visitors can get more from their weekend. The pieces integrate seamlessly into the sun-lit setting, where they can be used as designed.
The two-bedroom apartment sleeps five for short and longer stays, with rates starting from €280 a night (two-night minimum) though it can also be used for meetings and photoshoots. The double bedroom and bunk room share a retro-tiled bathroom, washing facilities and a fully equipped stainless-steel kitchen with an induction stove and dishwasher.
Linens, toiletries and the like are provided by a roster of partners, who offer each item for sale. Even more impressive are the furnishings and craft pieces by brands like Hay and Stack, with rugs, wall-hangings and installations by Coseincorso, Atelier Ternier and Vormen. Inspiration comes from early influencers like Leo Castelli and Gavin Brown, who began their art careers by staging exhibitions in a domestic environment.
