See inside a fashion designer’s converted Hudson Valley barn
Marchesa co-founder Keren Craig spent 14 years renovating and expanding this handsome barn in the New York hamlet of Accord. Now, the Swiss-born British designer has listed the 6.5-acre spread for sale with Four Seasons Sotheby’s International Realty for $2.875m.
The five-bedroom converted barn dates from the 1920s and is located in the Rondout Valley. Accord and the wider Ulster County are mainly agricultural and just a 2-hour drive from New York—perfectly placed for those seeking a quiet weekend getaway.
According to Craig, the rustic barn was dated when she and her husband, Piers North, first encountered it. Now, its ground level unravels as a series of practical spaces with high-spec and bespoke finishes, including a Plain English-designed kitchen with a walk-in pantry and cosy sitting room with a rustic woodburning fireplace. Four guestrooms are set within the back wing of the house.
On the second floor is a vast white-washed, vaulted living space that spans the length of the original barn and is loosely zoned via furniture into a library, workout space, and entertainment area. High windows and French windows capture views of rolling fields and the surrounding countryside.
The couple’s private sanctuary is in the newly added southern wing. This primary suite has a sitting room, all the walk-in closets a fashion designer might need, and a full bathroom with a soaking tub and dark green zellige tiles. There’s also a secluded patio with an outdoor shower and cold plunge.
Agent Annabel Taylor holds the listing for the New York property.
