Kew Palace lookalike goes on the market in Sussex for £4.5m

The 8,000-square-foot space has five en suite bedrooms, formal gardens and an outdoor heated pool

Four hundred years of care and maintenance have kept Barnham Court intact, up to date and looking better than ever. Now Inigo is offering it as a turnkey property – one of the only residences in the south with a Grade I listing.

The 17th-century West Sussex manor was built in the Mannerist style by a team of London-based craftsmen, on seven acres of private grounds near the coast in Arun district. Experts believe the architects – officially unknown – could be the same team who designed Kew Palace in west London, due to their similarity.

The building was appended 200 years later with added servants’ quarters; a recent restoration respects the original integrity with high-quality materials. The 8,000 square feet of living space include five en suite bedrooms, oak-panelled dining rooms, several grand halls and open fireplaces throughout. Original marble countertops, bread ovens and open shelves have been incorporated into the new kitchens.

Included in the price is the liveable garage, gardener’s cottage, generous guest cottage and outdoor heated swimming pool amid lavender gardens, an orchard and pond.
