Fine art is a given now at many world-class hotels, but the new Borghese Contemporary Hotel—no relation to the illustrious Borghese Gallery a mile away—doubles as an exhibition space.
Located near Via del Corso, the Rome hotel shines a spotlight on modernists and new talents, from Ed Ruscha and Sandro Sanna to Elle De Bernardini and Travis Fish, and puts them on continuous rotation. Owners Romeo and Guglielmo Piperno have designed the common areas and all 24 guest rooms with their own distinctive artistic characteristics. ‘Each space has been designed with art as the fulcrum,’ says Romeo. ‘Each environment is linked by an artistic fil-rouge, with different works that leave an imprint and give personality to the areas.’
‘Modern and contemporary art has always been a great interest of ours,’ adds Guglielmo. ‘The hotel combines our deep passion for art—initially modern art and increasingly extended towards contemporary art—with the family tradition of hotel keepers.’
The interiors echo the creamy pillared exterior, with neutral walls and marble accents that help set off the artwork. The guest rooms are finished with Loro Piana fabrics and lighting by Flos.
