This Montauk motel’s first renovation in 40 years embraces minimal coastal chic

Vintage furniture and a soft blue tones set the scene

Brooklyn practice Home Studios overhauled the interiors of Daunt’s Albatros Motel, bringing a fresh palette of breezy beachy shades and textures to the Montauk hideaway.

The studio sourced a range of vintage furniture for the family-run motel to ensure that each of its 23 rooms is different. They sit alongside a handful of custom pieces, including an alder wood daybed and limestone and wood reception counter.

The rooms – which were last refurbished in the early 1980s and start from $289 per night. – are decked out in soothing shades of blue and white, with rattan light fittings, wall hangings and wooden furniture all contributing to the beach house aesthetic.

The homely atmosphere continues in Daunt’s outdoor space, which Home Studios has populated with Adirondack loungers and firepits. The motel is just 100 metres from the beach, though guests take a dip in the motel’s saltwater pool before putting in their s’mores order at the front desk.
