The house from hit comedy ‘Shrill’ is for sale

Comedy television series Shrill shone a spotlight on one of Portland’s architectural gems when it featured a colourful midcentury home in its episodes.

The prefab Portland property was built in 1959 and took inspiration from Mies van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House and Piet Mondrian’s colour-blocking techniques. Portland architects Donald Blair and William Fletcher designed it as a model home in a futuristic style for local developer Wedgwood Homes who named it the Wedgwood Home of Tomorrow.

In the Hulu streaming show, the four-bedroom, time capsule Oregon home starred as the house of the parents of Annie, the show’s main character (played by Aidy Bryant), and has a groovy look that speaks of Shrill’s fun, vintage aesthetic. It is now on the market for $639,000 via broker Lori Fenwick of Premiere Property Group.

The steel-framed Oregon house has a simple form with solid, coloured panels alternating with glass walls. Its two wings are covered by a folded, lightweight roof sat under clerestory windows. Inside it has sweeping garden views along with Jetsons-like built-in gadgets, prefab walnut veneer walls, and a white Scandinavian-style suspended fireplace.
