Step through the doors of this Manhattan apartment and the first thing you notice is its abundance of greenery and light.
Plants hang from the ceiling of the Chelsea loft, while palms soak up sunlight streaming through its many windows.
It was the space’s expansive glazing that first attracted its owners, Trendland founders Ani Tzenkova and Cyril Foiret. ‘The fact it has 21 windows was the only thing that drew me to it [initially],’ says Tzenkova.
The pair spent two-and-a-half month gutting and stripping back the three-bedroom apartment. They gave the space a minimal colour scheme – the walls being just about the only thing that’s minimal inside the property, which the couple share with their two young children.
Nooks are filled with kitsch collectibles and artbooks, while vintage furniture is deliberately mismatched. ‘I’ve always loved the minimal, less-is-more Scandinavian aesthetic,’ says Tzenkova. ‘But with two kids, and between Cecil and I, who are obsessed with everything, it never ends up that way!’
Elsewhere, a black and white geometric painting by LA-based artist Tofer Chin takes pride of place in the open-plan dining room and living area while images from Norwegian photographer Anja Niemi dot the walls.
