At what size does a treehouse cease to be a treehouse? My Arbor, a new 104-room resort and spa on 34-metre stilts in the Dolomites, thinks of itself as such. It’s suitably built from distressed larch and spruce and hiked up in the fir trees. But its luxurious breadth suggests otherwise.
An adults-only spa-focused stay, My Arbor offers views from every full-height window of the alpine landscape and Isarco Valley below. Architect Gerhard Tauber, of Tage in nearby Brixen, worked with Paul Seeber and Wolfgang Meraner to line the building inside and out with sun-darkened wood, making it feel – and smell – like part of the forest. The suites, or ‘nests’, have extra sleeping areas, panoramic windows and deep balconies.
Wellness is the property’s forte. Its 8,000-metre Arboris Spa features five varieties of saunas, 10 treatment rooms, steam rooms, infinity pools and a programme of forest bathing, yoga and mountain hikes. Sitting at the heart of Italy’s South Tyrol ski region, the cuisine is a highlight, featuring produce from the owners’ family farm on Lake Garda. It folds into pastas and pizzas to help fuel long days skiing the 25 miles of pistes in the Dolomiti Superski area next door.
