Parisian practice Studio NAB is the latest to offer its vision for rebuilding Notre-Dame Cathedral’s fire-ravaged roof – as a vast public garden.
A glass-roofed greenhouse would traverse the length of the cathedral, while the spire would become a multi-storey apiary for bees.

The studio’s design repurposes the cathedral’s roof as an environmental education facility but respects the original proportions and silhouette of the medieval building. Glass panels would be set within a gold-hued steel frame, while elements from Notre-Dame’s original burnt oak frame would be recycled to create planters for trees, shrubs and plants.

Other designs proposed for the landmark’s new roof include a sci-fi glass spike by Foster + Partners; a glowing Baccarat crystal roof and spire by Studio Fuksas; and gilded ‘flame’ from designer Mathieu Lehanneur.
