It took four years to turn Casanova di Mesola from a ruinous farmhouse into a sprawling contemporary home – now on the market in Umbria for €1.49m.
Owners Ans Andriolo and Simon Rozendaal bought the Italian property in 2006 after they converted another old farmhouse nearby into a holiday rental. This, their own home, has been renovated to their own design and the pair employed local craftsmen to restore the structure and bring it back to life.
Interiors of the 300 sq m stone Umbrian property, which is sited between Gubbio and Pietralunga, blend old with new: timber beamed ceilings and restored stone surfaces are juxtaposed with crisp white walls and contemporary Italian furniture.
Casanova di Mesola has a soaring double-height living room with cool concrete floors and a wood burning stove. Also on the ground floor is a large kitchen and master bedroom, meanwhile three large bedrooms peel off the mezzanine which snakes around its upper level.
The Umbrian property for sale comes with 13 hectares of landscaped gardens, and a 15-metre infinity pool which looks out over the surrounding countryside and the ancient hillside town of Civitella Benazzone. And because the house is set on a hillside (at an altitude of 700 m) guests can step from the first storey rooms onto the landscaped grounds and terraces.
You can try Casanova di Mesola before you buy: the house is available to rent for groups of 8-10 guests and it’s being sold privately. Interested parties should contact Rozendaal directly: info@lavillaumbria.com
