Bruce Nauman brings his neon artworks to Milan’s Pirelli HangarBicocca

Visitors to Milan’s Pirelli HangarBicocca gallery can bathe in a luminescent glow this autumn by stepping inside a series of neon artworks by the master of light Bruce Nauman.

Dubbed Neons Corridors Rooms, the exhibition is organised in collaboration with London’s Tate Modern and Amsterdam’s Stedelijk Museum and brings together 30 of the legendary artist’s most architectural and spatial light artworks, made since 1965.

‘The true artist helps the world by revealing mystic truths,’ reads one of Nauman’s spiralling neon signs, and this ethos imbues each piece. Most striking are his titular neon corridors: ‘Green Light Corridor’ is a confined void,  barely wide enough to stand inside, that is illuminated overhead by green strip lights to create a total colour environment.

Less claustrophobic is his Yellow Room, which glows in a sunny hue, dissolving the hard edges of the gallery space and daubing everything in a cheerful ambient glow.

Neons Corridors is on view at Pirelli HangarBicocca until 26 February 2023.
