A new residential building puts Andorra on the architectural map

The tiny (pop: 88,000) landlocked country of Andorra is about to grow with the unveiling of this futuristic new development of 51 homes by French architect Jean Nouvel. La Querola D’Ordino, in the mountain village of Ordino, was built from 22,000 pieces of natural Pyrenees stone, cut to mimic the unexpected shapes and angles of the surrounding landscape.

The apartments range in size from 300 to 1,000 sqm, each with a private garage and elevator, fireplace and terrace. The penthouses have the benefit of higher, irregular ceilings fitted with skylights. Nouvel also applied his talents to the common areas and spa, with its water features, relaxation area, hammam and sauna. This leads to a full gym, indoor-outdoor Jacuzzi and outdoor swimming pool.

Newly available to buyers, the development has already won awards in Europe for its architecture and sustainable design. Properties are on the market with John Taylor, starting at €2.109m euros and rising to €6.71m.
