At $27.5 million, this ‘fixer-upper’ on Manhattan’s Upper East Side might sound like a hard sell, but its potential is unlimited.

Built by the Jardine Brothers in 1876, the building was redesigned in 1904 by architect Ernest Flagg who added the ornate limestone façade. It offers nearly 11,500 sq ft of combined living space, plus a 1600 sq ft garden.

On the market with Stribling & Associates, the six-storey property – previously a rental property with five tenants – has a cache of original historical details such as Baroque cornicing and marble fireplaces. And while there’s no shortage of space, additional planning permission has been approved for excavation below the garden that would add another 1,520 sq ft to the property.

Whether you want to turn it into a number of rental properties, or create a single extraordinary home, every floor is filled with light thanks to its large windows. And should the building work get too much, the fourth floor solarium will provide a guaranteed vitamin D fix.
