Maverick polymath Virgil Abloh passed away on 28 November 2021, leaving a gaping hole in the fashion world. But Abloh left an enchanting gift for guests at Louis Vuitton’s AW22 menswear show in Paris this weekend, with his final collection for the brand staged in a fantasy ‘Louis Dreamhouse’.

The giant blue playhouse was styled in true Virgil style, complete with italics and Abloh’s signature TM, and a vivid colour palette. According to Vogue’s fashion critic, Christian Madsen, who collaborated with Abloh on his show notes last year, Abloh had already designed the collection and laid out plans for the show’s production and soundtrack, down to invitations and staff T-shirts.

Tyler the Creator scored the performance, which featured dancers choreographed by Yoann Bourgeois, models dancing on the house’s red roof, spinning beds, zig-zagging staircases and an orchestra seated at all-blue workstation.
Madsen writes: ‘The “Louis Dreamhouse” encompassed a lot of the themes and messages at the heart of [Abloh’s] eight-collection arc for Louis Vuitton. Childlike and surreal, it was about imagination: having and encouraging the imagination to become someone great, do remarkable things, and make the world a better place. Virgil believed we should see the world through the unfazed eyes of a child to whom anything seems possible.’
