A Modernist hotel originally constructed for Soviet government’s VIPs has hit the market in the Lithuanian capital and its interiors are remarkably well preserved.

The 3,781 sqm Vilnius property was designed by Algimantas Alekna and its original details are still in place across the interiors – including coffered ceilings, patterned carpets, and parquet flooring.

Built-in 1980 in the Soviet Modernism style, Guest House Residence was aimed at high ranking officials, and facilities include a cinema, pool, and reception area for the most important guests.

It’s now on the market with Baltic Sotheby’s International Realty for €5.2m and during its heyday, it welcomed everyone from Danish royalty to key political figures such as Richard Nixon and Mikhail Gorbachev.

The Modernist property is surrounded by the greenery of Žvėrynas, a residential area that’s close to the city centre, and the former hotel is being touted for both commercial use and conversion into an opulent home.
