This low-key terracotta resort hides in the lava fields of Santorini

Santorini-based architects KCP have completed a terracotta-pink resort near Oia, designed to evoke the volcanic landscape of the Santorini lava fields.

Domes Novos opens in April 2024 on a quiet patch behind Kántharos beach with its own classic white-stucco chapel. Yet its earthy, monolithic volumes echo the traditional Cycladic architectural vernacular. Set back from the busy northwestern coast, the 52 guest quarters are crafted with local materials like volcanic rock and blonde oak, and topped with scrubby green roofs, belying the modern amenities inside.

Kiros Pagkalidis of KCP ensured the organic textures and tones sit easily within the natural setting pivoted toward the sunset. The private pools outside each private villa are a visual balm.

The resort is focused on family living – particularly the bungalow suites, called ‘adobes’. Children can explore an underground grotto swimming pool and the small plates in the mezze restaurant. Parents can partake in yoga and long walks around the property’s vineyards.
