Transport for London (TfL) has received the green light to transform its Grade I-listed, former Tube HQ near St James’s Park into housing.
Redevelopment of 55 Broadway, masterminded by architects TateHindle, will create more than 77 private apartments inside the 1929 construction.
‘The building is a part of our heritage,’ says Graeme Craig, TfL’s director of commercial development. ‘Its redevelopment will also enable us to preserve and enhance its historic features.’
TfL is also planning to improve retail spaces and retain more than 14,000 sq ft of offices in the lower floors of 55 Broadway – originally designed in the late 1920s by Adams, Holden & Pearson Architects.
Parking facilities and 35 affordable housing units will take up the adjacent 100 Petty France and Wing Over Station.
The 55 Broadway scheme is part of TfL’s wider plans to raise money through its property assets. These include the disused Down Street Tube station, which could be given a new lease of life as a restaurant or gallery.
