Steven Holl’s Y House is for sale in the Catskills
Set on a hilltop in New York’s Catskill Mountains lies an iron-oxide red house built in the shape of the letter Y.
The steel and timber-clad Catskills home was built in 1999 to a design by Steven Holl and features two arms, which branch off from a central space and end with glazed walls and balconies.
The wedge-shaped New York property’s two wings rise towards the sky. A stick-like steel frame supports its balconies, and irregular-shaped windows puncture its facade, lighting the interior and drawing the eye outside.
Y House is on the market for $1.6 million via Select Sotheby’s International Realty and is equally sculptural inside. A staircase flows up through the space, connecting with the mezzanine rooms while directing the gaze upwards to the asymmetrical ceiling.
