Starbucks has thrown open the doors to its Reserve Roastery in New York’s Meatpacking district – and it pays homage to the neighbourhood’s industrial heritage.

Chief design officer Liz Muller crafted the interiors of the 23,000 sq ft space, which is set over three floors. Colossal bronze casks take centre stage in the ‘working’ part of the space.

The ceiling meanwhile – designed with acoustics in mind – is a sculptural tapestry of panels traversed by copper piping that unifies the zones of the roastery, alongside vertical timber slats.

As with its Milan outpost, there’s a cafe and aperitivo bar inside the space, which opens to the public tomorrow. It offers beer and coffee-infused cocktails from its 60-ft-long bar overlooking the roastery and features a copper artwork of Starbuck’s mermaid emblem.
