Kariouk Architects designed this striking woodland property deep in Ontario’s backcountry.
Located at 18754 Heart Lake Road, around an hour outside of Toronto, the Caledon property sits on 100 private acres of land, with the house unfurling over a whopping 10,000 sq ft. Its design combines elements of cabin living and modernism, with volumes arranged like Tetris pieces to echo the slope of the treeline.
The steel-beamed structure has a dramatic pitched roof that appears to float above oversized glass panels, while exterior walls are clad in sleek, black slate shingles – a feature that continues inside the hallway, forging a connection to the exterior.
Interior designer Karin Bohn of House of Bohn created the interiors, which are understated despite their expensive material palette, which takes influence from the natural surroundings. Think black kitchen cabinetry, natural, earthy tones and plenty of wood.
Each room of the 5 bedroom Ontario property – for sale via Carolyn Scime for $14.995 CAD – has panoramic views of the landscape, which is a rich mix of mature woods, meadows and natural ponds.
