Portland’s refurbished Forbes-Mack Residence hits all the right notes

The North West regional style home has a Scandinavian twist

This 1955 property is one of a handful of Portland homes designed by Danish architect John Jensen.

Cedar forest surrounds the Forbes-Mack residence, giving the impression from the interior that it’s floating among the trees thanks to huge windows that fill the home with natural light.

The four-bedroom home’s current owners have completely refurbished the midcentury modern dwelling, combining several smaller rooms to create an open-plan kitchen and living room and sprucing up its gardens.

Despite the upgrades, the Portland property – listed for $1.35m via (W)here Real Estate – is still bursting with midcentury flavour. Built-in lighting illuminates the clean lines of its design, while slate flooring and teak and cedar panelling run throughout.

Would-be owners can also admire its vintage architecture from the grounds, where a fire pit is waiting for late-night marshmallow toasting.
