Would you stay in Philippe Starck’s surreal Metz hotel Maison Heler – a 14-storey tower capped by a fantastical chateau?

The French designer unveiled his plans for the new 119-room hotel, which smashes architectural styles together. It features a monolithic ‘plinth’ that will house bedrooms and provide a base for an 18th-century-style Alsatian club house on top. The concept behind the bold design is to create a future-forward structure that pays homage to region’s history.

‘This project is an “out-of-scale” phantasmagoric architecture,’ says Philippe Starck. ‘It’s a game about uprooted roots, a symbolic construction of Lorraine.’

Maison Heler’s clubhouse will have views out over the entire city of Metz, which locals and guests will be able to enjoy. It will also house a restaurant, bar, gym, meeting rooms and a rooftop terrace and garden planted with local trees.

Maison Heler Metz will be the first of the Maison Heler brand, itself part of Hilton’s Curio Collection. The project will also be Starck’s first European hotel created and developed from the ground up, and will spring up in Metz’s upcoming Quartier de l’Ampithéâtre.
