A Malibu house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright Jr – aka Lloyd Wright – has hit the market with Sotheby’s International Realty for $5.95m. The five-bedroom, seven-bath home was built late in the architect’s career for composer David Newman, who has been the home’s only owner.
The 7,000-square-foot Malibu spread is unmistakably Wright, with long eaves, corner windows and a dynamic wood staircase. The lofty ceilings are particularly interesting, with their deep vaults and origami pleats. The foyer ceiling has an oculus rooflight. And one peaked ceiling, over the main-floor living room and mezzanine, is lined in hardwood.
The Californian property was designed for staying in, from the ample guest parking to the chef’s kitchen, bar and conversation areas. The architect included a custom movie theatre, library and art studio, along with office space for recording and composing. The living and dining areas share a large, cosy fireplace open to both sides.
