Nordic minimalism comes to Warsaw’s Old Town at the Puro hotel

In a pairing that brings quiet luxury to a heritage building in central Warsaw, Danish designers Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi of GamFratesi have redesigned the Puro Warszawa Stare Miasto hotel. Their Scandinavian minimalism and muted wood-and-stone palette have made it a highlight of hospitality on Canaletta Street in the Old Town. The designers say the hotel’s colour palette was conceived as a nod to 18th-century Italian artist Bernardo Bellotto Canaletto, per the address.

The architect-designed property opens onto a reception area with a handmade-brick floor, furnished with a dark-wood Danish cabinet, which serves as a reception desk, and a sculptural stone welcome table. It flows onto a series of interconnected rooms, including a restaurant, interior courtyard and a ‘tunnel-like’ lounge with an extra-long sofa. Seating and stone accent tables were custom-designed by GamFratesi. The designers paired their own furnishings with pieces by iconic Scandinavian brands like Louis Poulsen, &Tradition, Carl Hansen & Son, Gubi, LYFA, Eikund and Fredericia.

Upstairs are 192 guest rooms with travertine and timber headboards, sculpted coffee tables, wood-framed mirrors and bespoke light fixtures; bathrooms have travertine vanity niches and gold-framed mirrors. An in-house bakery, restaurant and wine bar called Mund is finished with custom veneered cabinets and locally sourced artwork.
