You could be forgiven for wanting to stay the night at Nomad Workspace, a colourful new Copenhagen coworking hub filled with contemporary art and design. All that’s missing are beds.

Nomad Workspace is housed inside a former courthouse in Nørrebro, designed in 1848 by Thorvald Bindesbøll. Cofounders Oliver Bernhard – a tech entrepreneur and former DJ – and clothing brand-founder Peter Madsen enlisted designer Natalia Sanchez to transform the building into a home from home.

‘We want to create a space which caters to creatives who are happy to pay a little extra to live in a beautiful environment with high service,’ says Bernhard. ‘We felt that most coworking spaces are either really uninspiring or too budget (think pallet desks in old warehouses, located far from the city centre).’

Desks in the open office cost €470 per month, while a private office starts at €2,700.

The Danish term for coworking space is ‘office hotel’ (kontorhotel), something the founders have taken literally. Artworks by the likes of Justin Morin, Magni Borgehed and James Viscardi fill the walls, supplied by Last Resort Gallery, while custom-made furniture by Sanchez sits alongside pieces by contemporary Danish designers and midcentury masters. Nomad Workspace also comes equipped with a photo studio, meeting rooms and a café.

‘We have been inspired by Ace Hotel and Soho House, who have been really good at creating spaces that mix different types of people and attract non-guests to create diversity and freshness for their guests and members,’ adds Bernhard.

The duo will soon launch Nomad Studios, a members’ club that allows people to come and work at the space, use the café and host meetings, without taking a permanent desk. Also to come is a new restaurant.
