Racing enthusiasts can get their hands on one of driver Mario Andretti’s Lola Cosworth T900 racing cars – up for auction via Bring a Trailer with a current bid of $28,250.
This Lola T900 is one of 22 built in 1985 and one of several campaigned by Newman/Haas Racing that season by Mario Andretti. The Italian-American racing car driver took the car (chassis H.U.06) to pole position and victory at the Milwaukee Mile in Wisconsin and took first place at the Portland Grand Prix in June 1985.
Newman/Haas Racing sold it in 1986, and the seller purchased the car in 2001. It was last started in 2002 and hasn’t been driven by the current owner, meaning it’s up for auction as a non-running project car and will need recommissioning before use.
Aesthetically, it is in decent condition with its red bodywork and #1 Beatrice Foods livery. It retains its turbocharged, fuel-injected 2.6-litre Cosworth DFX V8 paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. It has 15” MOMO cast magnesium-alloy centre-lock wheels and a quick-release steering wheel. A 10-gallon auxiliary fuel tank replaces the original fuel cell.
The auction ends at 1.10 pm on Friday, April 5 2023, and the car is being sold in Prescott, Arizona. It includes copies of its import documents, a removed fuel cell bladder, spare decals, a starter, and a bill of sale.
