This Los Angeles property can claim its part in Hollywood’s Golden Era: it is said to be where Marilyn Monroe lived early in her acting career.

The Normandy-style residence is part of the fabled Chateau Beachwood complex, located at the foot of the famous Hollywood sign. Warner Brothers built the 10-unit development in 1937 to house its silver screen starlets, including Greta Garbo, Marlene Deitrich and Monroe (who is said to have lived in this unit.)

More recently, Madonna, Sean Penn and John Cusack have lived in the enclave, which is located adjacent to the stone gates that have been the entrance to Hollywood since 1923.

Living spaces are stacked across two storeys, with the refurbished kitchen, living room and dining room on the ground floor and bedrooms above. Among interesting details mentioned on the $899,000 listing – held by Marlena Maidhof of Acme Real Estate – is an art deco staircase, ‘wedding cake’ plasterwork and original yellow and purple tiling and kitschy turquoise porcelain ware in the bathroom.
