Geometric Los Angeles home by Ted Tokio Tanaka asks for $3.2m

LAX Airport architect Ted Tokio Tanaka designed this geometric Los Angeles property – on the open market for the first time in 83 years.

The four-bedroom Sherman Oaks home was built in 1940 and has never been sold on the open market, according to listing agent Marny Maslon of Douglas Elliman, who is listing the unique property for $3.2m.

The organically-inspired 3,240 sq ft home is surrounded by trees and is clad in timber, with green metal windows. It comprises a cluster of geometric forms that feature floor-to-ceiling windows, double-height timber ceilings and circular ‘porthole’ windows.

Tanaka has updated the midcentury property several times over the decades, and the present owner has added several patios and decks to create a series of outdoor entertainment spaces with canyon and hillside views across the greater San Fernando Valley. There’s also a pool, sauna and nearly 1,000 enclosed spaces for work and exercise.
