The Cotswolds are famed for their charming chocolate-box architecture, but you’d be hard-pressed to find a prettier example than Cirencester’s Ready Token House, which blends tradition with modern finishes.

The 17th-century home sits on just under 60 acres of land and is built in beautiful Cotswold stone, covered with colourful wisteria. Though its exterior is traditional, down to the slate-covered roof, the interiors have undergone an extensive renovation in keeping with its history, courtesy of architects Yiangou.

An impressive entrance hall nods to the past with its patinated flagstone flooring, with the large drawing room adjacent. Its large open fire promises cosy evenings, while stone mullion windows overlook the country property’s beautifully tended gardens. A second sitting room (this one panelled and used as a television room) offers a more intimate and informal option on this level.

While the kitchen has been completely redesigned, it still feels in keeping with the pedigree of the home, with low beamed ceilings adding character to the space. It’s been outfitted with a large central island, bespoke cabinetry, modern appliances, and a stable door that leads out to a south-facing terrace.

Bedrooms are located up the grand staircase, and all have views of the gardens stretching towards the Marlborough Downs in the distance, along with high ceilings, like those on the ground floor. What makes the principal bedroom stand apart is its generous en suite and dressing room, with fitted wardrobes and seating space.

Extremely private, the Gloucestershire property is surrounded by a mix of formal award-winning gardens, wildflower meadows and paddocks, including a stable block and a large storage barn, with rolling countryside beyond. There’s also a separate two-bedroom guest cottage on the property, complete with its own walled garden and parking spaces, and the owners have added an indoor swimming pool and gym to the estate.

Blue Book Agency is marketing Ready Token House for £5.5m.
