The mansion from Home Alone, one of the most iconic houses in festive film history, has gone on sale for $5.25m (£4.1m).
The five-bed, six-bathroom property in Winnetka, Illinois, has become one of the most recognisable on-screen homes in history since the film’s release in 1990.
The festive classic starring Macaulay Culkin, Catherine O’Hara, Joe Pesci and John Candy saw Kevin McCallister being accidentally left Home Alone at Christmas by his family. Listed via Kathryn Moor and Dawn McKenna of Coldwell Banker Realty, this is the first time the Illinois property has gone on the market since 2012, apart from a one-night-only Airbnb offer in 2021.
While Home Alone fans will find plenty of familiar movie reference points remaining, from the property’s iconic façade to the staircase Kevin sledged down, the house has undergone significant renovations over the past 35 years, and the current owners have increased its size.
The living space has been doubled thanks to a new conservatory, and a basketball court has also been added.
And remember the creepy basement where the furnace lurked? From spooky dead space to prime real estate, it has now been converted to house a gym, a cinema, an additional bathroom and an indoor sports area.
‘A legendary holiday dream home, reimagined for modern-day luxury,’ reads the listing. ‘The stately brick Georgian residence of Home Alone fame brings forward a rare opportunity to own one of the most iconic movie residences in American pop culture.’
