Autumn is an interesting time to see Lisbon with fresh eyes: the summer crowds have dwindled but the city is still bathed in sunshine. And what grander digs to explore it from than this 18th-century palace, which has been lovingly restored as a minimalist vacation home in the heart of Belém.
The Portuguese holiday home is available to rent via Welcome Beyond from €780 per night, and combines old-world grandeur with contemporary furniture and art. Think ornate Portuguese tiles, murals and wood panelled walls, as well as crisp white walls and soaring ceilings.
Five bedrooms can be found on the main floor, alongside the living room, kitchen and dining room, with two more beneath.
For intrepid cultural explorers, the city’s monuments and art museums are on the doorstep – Jerónimos Monastery or Belém Tower are just a short stroll away, while the neighbourhood’s world-famous pastel de nata are in constant supply.
