Looking to get off to a healthy start in 2018? It’s not just about changing your lifestyle, it can be about changing where you live. Each of these properties are designed with wellness at their core, offering everything from private swimming pools and tennis courts to state-of-the-art gyms, yoga rooms and even dance floors. At these wellness properties, you can work out without leaving your home.
Mansion Sao Conrado, Rio de Janeiro
POA; 7 bedrooms; via Rio Exclusive
Oscar Niemeyer designed this Brazilian home, which is a pleasure pad with a healthy bent. Entertainment facilities across the seven bedroom villa in Rio’s São Conrado neighbourhood include a swimming pool, jacuzzi and gym, as well dry and steam saunas. There’s also a tennis court, and a half basketball court, which could be turned into a squash court, if you’re so inclined.
Maison Zermatt, Switzerland
POA; 6 bedrooms; via Cardis Immobilier / Sotheby’s International Realty
Ride a private funicular railway to reach this mountainside Swiss chalet, which is a contemporary take on cabin living set across four sprawling floors. Six bedrooms can be found across Maison Zermatt, but its ground floor is where the real R&R happens…
There’s a wellness area, sauna, jacuzzi and (our personal favourite) a massage room, for unwinding those tired muscles after a long day on the slopes.
56 Leonard Street penthouse, New York
$17.75 m; 4 bedrooms; via Corcoran
Herzog & de Meuron’s 56 Leonard Street skyscraper made waves when its Brutalist interiors were unveiled last year, and its amenities aren’t to be sniffed at either. The Manhattan tower’s 17,000 sq ft facilities are spread over the ninth and 10th floors of the 60-storey structure, and include a 72-ft long swimming pool, fitness centre, yoga studio, and a ‘living room’ style lounge. Most of the apartments are occupied, but penthouse 52b is on the market via Corcoran. The four-bedroom space features 14-ft-high ceilings, a private balcony, floor-to-ceiling glass, wood-burning fireplace, and custom-designed interiors by the Swiss firm.
Villa Askel, Marrakech
€3.5m; 5 bedrooms; via Christie’s Real Estate
The dining room, library and media room overlook the bar, while wellness facilities include a massage room, gym and hammam. Ramouni – a protégé of Philippe Starck – also designed Villa Dar Bianca in Marrakech, which was used as the lair of James Bond’s nemesis in 2015 film, Spectre. Villa Dar Bianca is on the market via Emile Garcin and also comes with a fitness centre and swimming pool.
Private villa in Great Guana Cay, the Bahamas
$16m; 9 bedrooms; via Chestertons International
This 20-acre Bahamas estate occupies a private cay on the Sea of Abaco. The main four-bedroom house features a vaulted central living space with exposed trusses and pristine white walls. Wrap around verandas offer outside space, while huge windows and doors capture the sea breeze, keeping the Bahamian property cool in the tropical heat. Two guest cottages offer five more bedrooms and all have access to the estate’s tennis court and cabana, where you’ll find fitness equipment as well as a kitchen and bar. (Well, it can’t be all work and no play…)
Apartment Ladinia, Corvara in Alta Badia
€3.8m; 3 bedrooms; via Casa Italia
When you’re finished with the slopes for the day, why not hit the gym, pool and sauna? This classic timber chalet overlooking the Alta Badia mountain peaks has the lot. It also comes with three bedrooms and fur-laden interiors.
Frescoed dance studio apartment in Orvieto, Umbria
€1.5m ; 2 bedrooms; via Abode Italy / Savills
Hoping to prop up a different kind of barre in 2018? There’s plenty of space to practice your pirouettes inside this frescoed Orvieto apartment, which is currently run as a dance and yoga studio. Its voluminous rooms feature painted ceilings and walls, as well as carved wooden doors and tiled floors. But the show-stopper is its double height reception room, which is decked in pastoral friezes.
