A Porsche 911 Carrera formerly owned by Diego Maradona is coming up for auction at Bonhams, and it’s one of only 1,200 ever made.
The silver Porsche 964 isn’t just a rare model, its history is linked with one of the football legend’s more infamous moments – when he was stopped by armed police for racing the car through Seville city centre at 120mph.
Unsurprisingly, given the Argentinian icon’s love of fast cars, there are over 74,000 miles on the convertible’s clock, although the auctioneers say it’s in good condition. He drove the Porsche to and from football training every day and the 911 Carrera car is expected to fetch anywhere between €150k – 200k when it hits the digital auction block on 3-10 March.
