Cyndi Lauper has listed her songwriting retreat in North Stamford, Connecticut, for a cool $1.25M.

The New York-born musician and activist bought the rural French Colonial-style property – which was originally built by 9 West co-founder Vince Camuto – in the mid-1980s, around the time she released True Colours. She’s written several albums there, as well as her Grammy and Tony-award winning musical Kinky Boots.

Says Lauper’s husband, actor David Thornton: ‘It was a real creative place for her to get away and write and record. There’s a little guesthouse which she turned into a studio. It was a way for her, a girl from Queens, to get away into the woods.’

Interiors of the three-bedroom home are the handiwork of designer Howard Kaplan – the man credited with bringing the French country aesthetic to America – and include antique 19th-century fixtures, French glass doors, and tiles.

The 3,900 sq ft Connecticut property has aged pretty gracefully, and a particular highlight is its Great Room, which features a stone fireplace, Palladian style windows with views of the lake, and soaring cedar mansard roof.

It’s on the market via Michael B Leventhal of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, and sits on a 1.58-acre lot, complete with swimming pool.
