A two-bedroom apartment is up for rent in Bushwick’s former St Mark’s church and it’s packed with period details.
The red-brick Evangelical Lutheran church and school were built at 618 Bushwick Avenue in the 1890s. They have been given a gut renovation by developer Cayuga Capita as part of their transformation into rental apartments in the Brooklyn neighbourhood.
This two-bedroom bolthole – available to rent via Kate Quintard on Nooklyn for $3,925 per month – is among the most dramatic. Set over three levels, it’s nestled beneath the church’s roof, and features arched windows and oak throughout.
The real jaw-dropper however is the Bushwick apartment’s soaring, tiled ceiling, which crowns the living room and master bedroom, and features an intricate mosaic trimmed in gold.
A ladder from one of the bedrooms leads out to an outdoor roof deck, and interiors have been given a neutral paint job that lets the architecture do the talking.
