A cheeseburger museum and the world’s first UFO landing pad are just some of the inventive proposals that have been submitted to an ideas competition for reviving the disused New York State Pavilion.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation launched the initiative earlier this year to whip up attention around the decaying structure, designed by architect Philip Johnson for the 1964 World’s Fair.

It received more than 250 weird and wonderful entries from around the world. There were also more modest submissions to turn the pavilion into a brewery, velodrome, Japanese Garden and a theatre.

You can check out the entries on the competition site and vote for your favourite before 15 July. A panel of judges, which includes architect Deborah Berke, will also review the proposals and decide on first, second and third place winners.
