Works from 100 galleries will be displayed at Art Basel’s OVR:2020 and OVR:20c viewing rooms, which open online this autumn.

The virtual rooms will showcase works made in the last year and from across the 20th century, respectively, with each gallery contributing six works.

Marc Spiegler, Global Director of the fair, said the online viewing rooms are in response to the ‘difficult times’ the art world is facing and will attempt to explore different ways of supporting galleries and keeping people engaged.

Any gallery that’s participated in an Art Basel fair already, from 2018 onwards, can apply, although a spot in the online viewing rooms runs to $5,000.

More digital rooms are set to launch later in the year, with OVR:2020 on display from 23 to 26 September, and OVR:20c opening from 28 to 31 October. Art Basel VIP guests will be able to access both and ask gallerists questions via live chat.
